Nordson expands plasma systems operations at new location
Nordson Corporation, USA, a world leading producer of precision dispensing equipment, has relocated the headquarters of its March Plasma Systems unit in Concord, California, USA. The new building will house systems research and development, technical support, sales and marketing functions. “We are growing both domestically and internationally. This new location provides us with the opportunity to house three state-of-the-art laboratories with customer support, training, and demonstration capabilities in a single location”, commented Mr Peter Bierhuis, March president. March Plasma Systems, a world leader in gas plasma technology for micro- and opto-electronic packaging and PCB industries, designs and manufactures a complete line of plasma treatment systems.
Use of radio-frequency, low-pressure gas plasma is an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of surface activation and cleaning during manufacturing processes, improving reliability and yield in semiconductor and printed circuit board assembly. Gas plasma treatment before die attach, wire bonding, encapsulation, and underfill increases bond strengths. For PCB manufacturing, plasma technology can deliver higher uniformity and reproducibility than chemical or mechanical process. Plasma treatment increases the surface energy of advanced materials, including Teflon®, providing excellent lamination and wettability for plating through-holes. Plasma also removes resin smear created in the drilling process and removes carbon by-products from blind vias.
The expanded laboratory facilities will be equipped with March Plasma equipment for customer training and demonstrations, as well as upgraded technical systems featuring an array of analytical tools for processing customer samples and new product development.
