CORPORATE NEWS:
WAI opens Asian office
June is set to see the opening of Wire Association International’s (WAI) Asian office in the northwestern city of Pune. It will be staffed by former WAI President Anand Bhagwat who will be returning to his native country with his family.
In an interview with the WAI’s magazine Wire Journal International Mr Bhagwat summarises his mission: “The majority of our members are concentrated in North America and Europe. Now that the demographics are shifting and growth in membership is coming from Asia and other parts of the world, it is important to address local needs and service them locally. And I think India is just the beginning.”
Using the base created by volunteer members of the existing India Chapter, Mr Bhagwat says he has a modest goal of 300 new members by 2009. The WAI is hosting its first Technical Conference in India from 5–8th October 2006 in New Delhi. Alongside the conference there will be tabletop exhibits, a plant tour and the all-important “networking opportunities”.
Now that Brazil has Metaltech, Russia has wire Russia and China has wire China, it must surely only be a matter of time before the only ‘show-less’ member of the BRIC quartet gets a dedicated wire trade exhibition organised on an international scale.
