World Cup soccer security relies on Dätwyler cabling

When the soccer world championships kick off on 9th June in the Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany cables and compo-nents from international supplier Dätwyler Cables+Systems will play a major part.

High-performance Unilan and Optofil products from this international manu-facturer will provide a substantial part of the arena’s passive network cabling infrastructure. A powerful combination of copper and fibre optic cables and their corresponding components will provide the telephone, data and video backbone to this extravagant temple of soccer.

Generously designed media facilities will enable journalists to dispatch data and pictures all over the world. Safety cables and components from Dätwyler will also play a vital role in the fire protection concept of the Allianz Arena. Dätwyler’s fire safety system concept comprises an integrated system of cables, components and installation methodology which has been proven to provide functional integrity. In total, 4000km of Dätwyler cables have been installed in the Allianz Arena for data and energy distribution.

Dätwyler’s Unilan Compact Solution (Unilan CS) provides the basis of the data network in the arena. This comprises high-perfor-mance Uninet 7702 twisted pair Category 7 copper cable, shielded 24 port patch panels (CS 24/8), patch cords and outlets in various versions. The high performance reserves of the cables ensures high fidelity transmission of all services – data, telephone and video – and guarantees compliance with all existing standards.

The soccer stadium network is optimized with Optofil hybrid cables manufactured with single mode and multi mode fibres, and with corresponding connecting com-ponents as well. The safety cables from Dätwyler guarantee in the case of fire a functional integrity of at least 30 minutes in the areas of detection, alarm and evacuation. In the case of fire suppression, smoke handling and extinguishing systems functional integrity amounts to 90 minutes.

Installation was undertaken by VA Tech Elin EBG on behalf of Alpine Bau Deutschland GmbH as general contractor and HVB Immobilien GmbH as general planner. In selecting cables and network components, the companies involved focused on high quality and on bandwidth reserves, which can also satisfy future needs and applications. A central requirement was network access in the stadium: this requirement was very exacting with 99.999% or six minutes of interruption at the maximum per year.

Dätwyler safety cables and components are used where large crowds of people require special safety measures such as in high-rise buildings, administrative buildings, hospitals and airports. They fulfil the most stringent European directives in special areas such as road and railway tunnels.

As a competent partner, Dätwyler Cables+Systems offers one-stop complete cabling infrastructures. Cable and system components together with consulting and logistic services form a comprehensive customer-specific package.

The Allianz Arena is an architectural masterpiece that cost €340m (£232m, US$412m) and offers seating for 66,000 spectators. Of the total usable area of 170,000m2, the new building hosts in addition to the stadium two restaurants for the soccer fans with 1500 seats each, a family restaurant, 28 kiosks, adventure parks, shops for soccer fans, offices, conference rooms and generously designed media facilities.
