Wire Expo approaches sell-out status

The Wire Association International (WAI) and its New England chapter will host Wire Expo 2006 at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, from 20–24th May 2006.

As well as the exhibiting companies there will be a complete technical programme, floor-side briefing forums, networking prospects, educational exchanges and social festivities. This mix of elements is making Wire Expo the most anticipated wire and cable event in the USA in 2006.

To date 250 exhibiting companies are signed and situated on the proposed floor plan, with additional stands being sold daily toward an expected 280-company roster. Participating organisations represent the ferrous, non ferrous, electrical, fibre optic and fastener disciplines of the industry.

Similarly, the 40-presentation technical addresses will cover those same industry segments over five days. ‘Products’ – part three of a ‘Fundamentals of wire manufacturing’ course led by eight industry experts – is planned prior to exhibits and technical offerings. Theme session topics include: nanotechnology; wire breaks; wire and cable supply chains; wastewater treatment; insulated wire manufacturing; roller die drawing; and cleaning and coating of non ferrous wire.

Briefings will focus on ‘Securing future engineering talent’ and ‘Concentrates’. A roundtable presentation and discussion on ‘Plant operations’ punctuates the week’s educational offerings on 24th May.

Invited speaker Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney heads the list of leaders who will address Wire Expo attendees. Other notables include Evan Gaddis, President of the National Electric Manufacturers’ Association and Stephen Bradley, Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. The organisers also hope to sign up a “sports icon from the Boston area”.

“Wire Expo is an excellent opportunity, especially for the many wire companies in the region, to visit key suppliers and understand the latest technical advances in the industry. We plan on rotating our full staff through this special event,” said Ron Reed, General Manager, Horizon Wire & Cable.

A pre-event outing to, and tour of, Fenway Park – the oldest baseball park in the American League – extends the list of social activities that are planned to spotlight some of Boston’s attractions. Another activity is the 5K Road Race, sponsored by Gem Gravure in and among Boston-area sites.

Wire Expo is held biennially for the wire and cable manufacturing industry. Initiated in 1990 in Boston, Wire Expo offers global industry information in a regional setting and a timely meeting point for suppliers, manufacturers, buyers, researchers, and industry pioneers from around the globe.

Wire Expo 2006 is supported by several sponsoring organisations including: The American Wire Producers Association (AWPA); The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE); and The Wire and Cable Industry Suppliers’ Association (WCISA).

Educational alliances include the Australasian Wire Industry Association and the Asociación Nacional de Transformadores de Acero AC (ANTAAC) which represents ferrous wire manufacturing operations in Mexico.

The schedule of events and other developing details of the five-day Wire Expo event can be found on WAI’s website.
