Bhushan Steel rolls out expansion
The privately-owned Indian company Bhushan Steel & Strips (BSSL) has awarded SMS Demag of Germany the contract for the supply of a conventional wide hot strip rolling mill in Orissa which will eventually produce up to 4.5 million tonnes per year. The mill will produce hot strip with a thickness of 1.6–20mm and a maximum strip width of 1,680mm.
In addition to the feedstock for the company’s own cold rolling mills, it is intended to produce a demanding product mix including HSLA (High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel), tube and special steel grades in the hot rolling mill. BSSL has also ordered from SMS Demag the supply of a CONARC steelmaking plant. With this investment, BSSL will become one of the largest privately-owned Indian steel plant owners.
