IWMA sees a launch pad to success in Latin America

When looking at economic growth around the world it is impossible to ignore the 'BRIC' countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China – whose annual growth rates are setting the pace. Phillip Knight of the International Wire and Machinery Association (IWMA) has first-hand experience of helping companies seeking to do business in these countries: "Each presents challenges," he said on his return from Brazil's Tubotech and Metaltech exhibitions, "but one way of signalling serious intent is to exhibit at regional events."

"Exhibit with a consistent (and persistent) message, network and raise your profile and good local partners will seek you out. For wire and cable companies seeking to break in to and develop the Brazilian market the Metaltech exhibition offers a very important launch pad."

This was the first staging of a concurrent metal event in Tubotech's three-year history, but the IWMA was so impressed that it may contemplate sponsoring the next Metaltech. "One impressive feature of Tubotech and Metaltech was how well the visitor numbers were maintained in the exhibition hall even right up to the last hour of the last day," said Mr Knight. According to Tubotech's organisers, Grupo Cipa, the exhibition space was more than 30% up on last year.

Tubotech has previously been an annual event. From now on it is to become a biennial exhibition and held concurrently with the newly-established Metaltech. The shows will be held in the same venue – Rodovia dos Imigrantes exhibition centre in São Paulo from 2-4th October 2007.
