| Nortel Networks, Canada, has recently completed the deployment of a metropolitan ring connecting the central switching stations in Mexico City and surrounding areas for TELCEL, Latin Americas largest wireless operator and leader in Mexico. The new infrastructure connects the strategic nodes of the network, positioning TELCEL to significantly increase voice capacity and reduce its operational costs. Nortel Networks deployed its Passport 7000 and Passport 15000 Multiservice Switches and Passport Packet Voice Gateway (PVG) solutions. This positioned the Mexican operator to reduce the number of trunks and evolve the network to a reliable and highly scaleable ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) infrastructure. The network is now in service.
Passport 15000 and 7000 are key components of Nortel Networks industry leading portfolio of multi-service switches, which also includes Passport 20000. With more than 40,000 systems deployed in over 1,500 customer networks globally, Passport has proven field experience in delivering in-service reliability.
