BT to adopt Beldens business approach
Belden Communications, UK, part of the American multi-national Belden Inc, has recently been awarded the prestigious 2002 BT Award for innovation and responsiveness. Belden is one of BTs major suppliers. Recently, the company helped the telecommunications giant become a leaner operation with the implementation of a Kaizen business programme, a creativity before capital set of business principles and processes that work across the entire supply chain with the aim of reducing costs, increasing efficiency and maximising health and safety standards. BT was so impressed with the success of Kaizen that the operator contacted Belden with a view to introducing the practices into their own operations.

Meryl Bushell, chief procurement officer for the BT Group, commented: This is a cable supplier that is looking way beyond its core product to the broader needs of its valued customer base. The company clearly looks for a true long term partnership in which it can play as wide a role as possible. They have delivered outside of the contract to help BT implement a more cost efficient and safer way of working. Mr Nick Bowman, BT account manager with Belden, added: Kaizen has been in operation at Belden for 3 years now and it has led to the creation of genuine partnerships with firms right across the supply chain. The input we have into processes through Kaizen affects every aspect of a business and creates a positive foundation for future development. Kaizen effectively improves the operations of companies we do business with and we are highly delighted that these practices are being adopted by BT as well as pick an award of this stature.
