| Emerson Network Power, a business of the American group Emerson, has recently announced the merging of its Fiber-Conn Assemblies Inc. division with the optical division of LoDan International to form a consolidated optical interconnect assembly group. From now on, these companies will combine their expertise in providing high-quality optical fibre cable assemblies used in data networks, telecommunications systems and cable television transmission applications.
The new Optical Connectivity division, who will be headquartered near Baltimore (USA) and will have two manufacturing operations in the USA and one in Morocco, .will operate two product lines:
- Fiber-Conn premise products providing leading products for Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) applications;
- Enterprise products providing a full line for the Storage Area Network (SAN) and computing market.
This merger continues an Emerson strategy to enhance its market presence in the optical fibre cable assembly market, which draws its strength from continuing demand to send data at higher speeds, prompting a switch from traditional copper transmission lines to higher-speed, optical fibre cable. We see tremendous opportunities in the cabling and optical interconnect markets, commented Mr Michael Dahan, Optical Connectivity president. The combined business will have a much larger group of engineering resources and we will be able to continue our product leadership in the markets we serve. Additionally, we will gain meaningful efficiencies by combining and streamlining the consolidated operations. I am very happy to be leading this important business unit and look forward to achieving success with this great team. The winners of a game-changing business advancement like this will be our customers, Mr Dahan added.
By offering the combined product lines for optical fibre cable assemblies in the LAN/WAN and SAN markets, Optical Connectivity will provide an unparalleled breadth of products and services for the communications industry. Our most important mission right now is to ensure that customers see a wider offering of products and better services from the new group. Service excellence is, and has been the key driver in our growth, commented Mr Joseph Iamartino, vice-president of technology of the new group. This merger will strengthen our position in the OEM and distribution market. Customers are looking to consolidate their supply base around suppliers with a broad offering of products, strong technical support and flexible supply services. Our new company structure will strengthen all of these areas.
