| Alcatel, France, has been awarded a multi-million US dollar contract to provide a communication transmission system that will serve the 37 station Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) railway network in the city of Kaohsiung in Taiwan. The network will be delivered through Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd, a major system integrator. The two companies have previously worked together in delivering similar networks in Singapore and the Philippines. Alcatels solution will further enhance the efficiency of the MRT network to offer fast and reliable service to Kaohsiung commuters. The network will transport such critical, security oriented services as public address announcements, clock distribution, and linkage of telephones from stations to the operations and control center. Our end-to-end solution provide the total telecommunications infrastructure for utility operators, enabling connectivity among voice, data and IP services in different remote stations, commented Mr Michel Rahier, chief-operating officer of Alcatels fixed communication activities.
Alcatel will deploy an SDH backbone network based on its next-generation optical multi-service node equipment along the MRT line to flexibly transport the required services, while services are multiplexed at each station utilising the Alcatel 1511 business access primary multiplexer. The installation of the Alcatel 1515 compact digital cross-connect in the control center will ensure point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or broadcasting distribution, and the Alcatel 1521 fibre optic line system will allow each remote station to be connected to the LAN. Alcatels access and optical transport network management solution will provide end-to-end management capabilities.
