Fibre optic submarine cables for Canadian Internet services
Nexans, France, a world leader in the cable industry, has been chosen by International Telecom Inc., Canada, to supply fibre optic submarine cables for the COGIM ring system that will connect La Gasp�sie with les �les-de-la Madeleine, in Canada. Nexans� contract includes the supply and installation of transmission equipment and cables, providing an important link for provision of Internet services in the area. Nexans will provide two cable segments plus spares for future maintenance of the system. Total quantity exceeds 450km and segments will be supplied in continuous cable lengths of 217 and 221km respectively. The fibre optic submarine cables for the COGIM project will be manufactured at Nexans� plant in Rognan, north of the Arctic circle in Norway.

COGIM is a ring system connecting La Gasp�sie with les �les-de-la-Madeleine in Canada. The system consists of two submarine cables comprising 24 optical G.652 fibres. Both terrestrial cables at each end of the system will comprise 48 fibres of the same type. Initially, one fibre pair will be used in each submarine cable to set-up a 2.5Gbit/s SONET fibre ring.
