Continuous casting draws considerable interest
Rautomead International, UK, has announced that wire Dsseldorf 2004 provided a perfect opportunity to present the latest advances in its continuous casting methodology to a global audience. Although the benefits of using the Rautomead process are now well-recognised across the wire and cable industry, we were particularly impressed by the many potential new customers that visited our stand, commented Sir Michael Nairn, Rautomead Chairman.

According to the company, the number of delegates from Russia and former Soviet Union countries, the Far-East and the Asian continent that wished to investigate the advantages of using the Rautomeads technologies for the production of high-quality oxygen-free copper rod, was impressive. The company exhibited its new generation machines with significant developments made over the last 12 months. Rautomead also presented the benefit of its latest generation of copper rod casting models. A point of focus for many delegates was the significant number of developments that have been made to our RS-series of upwards-vertical copper rod casting models, including regular production of 8.0mm Cu-OF rod at a rate of 5m/min, added Sir Michael Nairn.

The Rautomead RDG copper rod caster, a machine specifically developed for the casting of larger volumes also generated significant attention. With a single melting, holding and casting furnace, avoiding the necessity for liquid metal transfer, the RDG machine produces 20,000 tonnes per year of 8.0mm oxygen-free copper wire rod.
