| Part of the TT Electronics group, AEI Cables Ltd, UK, has recently announced that its technical director, Mr Peter Worrall, has been named the winner of a prestigious award for his work in the area of fire performance cables. In making the award, the International Wire and Machinery Association (IWMA) technical committee recognises Mr Worralls work in preparing and presenting a paper entitled Data Transmission in Fire Performance Cables.
The paper examined the performance requirements of cables used in critical data circuits in all likely situations in which their continued performance is needed, and more specifically the suitability of cables used in analogue addressable alarm systems where data transmission is required. It identifies measurable parameters and measurement results from the main classification of fire survival cables, and also provides some guidance on test criteria, which can form the basis of an assessment system. Mr Worrall commented: It is particularly pleasing to receive an award when a subject as crucial as this for the cabling industry is received and understood by an important organisation. The whole area of fire safety and performance in design and engineering is complex, but we believe some clarity of guidance is needed, particularly where there is doubt and confusion. We hope this will help those involved in making important decisions in the supply chain. Peter Worrall, a mathematical physicist, is to be presented with the award at the IWMA Gala Banquet to be held on Wednesday 31st March in Dsseldorf, Germany, during wire 2004 exhibition, when he will be the VIP guest for the evening.
AEI Cables Ltd is a leading supplier of cable products for power generation and transmission, control and instrumentation, railways, offshore, subsea, telecommunications and data, general wiring and construction, transportation, defence, mining, as well as cables for heavy industrial applications.
