Gigabit Ethernet System for Health Care
Sprint, USA, a global communications company serving more than 26 million business and residential customers in over 70 countries, has recently signed a multi-year agreement with Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS), Southwest Florida, USA, to build and monitor a Gigabit-Ethernet network connecting system facilities throughout the city of Lee County. LMHS will implement a tele-radiology system on the network to allow patient clinical images, such as digital cardiology imaging and X-rays, and other records to be transferred among all of the LMHS facilities. We continue to add advanced clinical automation capabilities and expand access to this automation throughout our facilities, commented Mr Mike Smith, chief information officer of LMHS. Our goal is to enable improved quality of care and service for our patients and improved efficiency for our physicians and caregivers, through seamless and secure access to clinical information, wherever and whenever it is required. We needed a communications partner that could build a high-speed network that would allow us to quickly, securely and reliably send large data files between our facilities through the county. We selected Sprint because it demonstrated superior quality technology, and because it has a strong history of cost-effective network reliability and superior customer service and support.

The Gigabit-Ethernet network will allow Lee Memorial to interconnect its Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) so that data can quickly be transmitted from building to building. Sprint provides Service Level Agreements for network uptime and response time and monitors the network 24-by-7. Reliable, consistent communications are essential for health care providers, said Mr Roy Knauer, Sprint account executive. Ethernet was the perfect choice for Lee Memorial Health System. It provides tremendous bandwidth, a network that is always up and allows it to interconnect multiple locations in the metropolitan area on a private or virtual local area network.

Lee Memorial Health System is a leading provider of health care and has served the citizens of Lee County and surrounding communities since 1916. LMHS is committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective services and is a progressive, financially sound health care provider with more than 5,800 employees, 3,000 volunteers and auxilians, and over 800 physicians serving patients within 5 hospitals: Lee Memorial Hospital; Cape Coral Hospital; HealthPark Medical Center; The Childrens Hospital of SW Florida; and The Rehabilitation Hospital.
