| 2003 will mark the 52nd anniversary of IWCS (International Wire & Cable Symposium) which will take place Philadelphia, USA, from November 17 to 20, 2003. Since the first Symposium was held in New Jersey, USA, it has grown in stature and become the pre-eminent forum for the presentation of technical information devoted to the cable and fibre optic industry. In September 2000, the Board of Directors of IWCS announced that the Focus Conference became part of the IWCS and the first IWCS/Focus Symposium was organised in November 2001. This year again, the symposium will offer an expanded programme that will incorporate many of the popular features of the Focus Conference.
The most important part of the IWCS/Focus programme remains the technical programme and exhibit centre. special technical sessions on all topics of interest to the cable and fibre optic industry have been already planned, including materials and processing, wire and cable for wireless applications, high-performance fibre optic and copper cables, copper cables, cable manufacturing, environmental concerns, systems (data, LAN, etc.), broadband networks, military applications, specialty cables, future networks, fibre and cable reliability, field experiences, splicing and connectors, building cabling, power and industrial cables. The popular Poster Session will also return. Papers are displayed on poster boards with authors standing for one-on-one discussions. The suppliers Forum will also permit greater opportunities for exchanges between suppliers and users, but will not, however conflict with attendance at sessions.
