| Established in 1915 and specialising in the manufacture of longitudinal metal tape shielding/armouring systems that are designed to produce both smooth and corrugated metal tape sheath constructions, Weber & Scher Mfg Co Inc., USA, has recently acquired the assets of AFA Industries from Watson International, USA which ceased operations last year. This new acquisition will provide both Weber & Scher and AFA customers with superior technical support and an expanded range of advanced equipment solutions from a single, complete and fully integrated source. In addition, full spare parts support and service for existing AFA equipment will also be offered by Weber & Scher.
Weber & Scher manufactures a broad range of advanced water blocking equipment and has offered metal tape shielding/armouring equipment for both power and communication cable since the inception of this technology. The products and technology available in the supply of water blocking systems further expanded in 1998 when Weber & Scher acquired the machinery division of Dussek Campbell in the UK. The company also manufactures welded metal tape sheathing systems for producing RF coaxial cables, CATV cables and power cables. AFA is recognised in the industry as providing modern technological solutions in reel handling, filling, fibre optic and metal sheath welding equipment.
With the acquisition of AFA Industries, Weber & Scher now offers an increased variety of welding and corrugating equipment alternatives for producing RF coaxial cables and becomes the leading world-wide supplier in this particular segment of the market. The expanded product line additionally includes stainless steel tube laser welding equipment for producing OPGW and submarine cables. The combining of these two organisations will enable us to offer top quality equipment, superior service, and the support of a knowledgeable engineering staff to respond to the needs of our traditional Weber & Scher customers and the existing AFA Industries customers, commented Mr Gregory Scher, President.
