| AlphaGary Corp. and Du Pont Fluoroproducts recently announced they have signed a joint development agreement to develop and commercialise new fluoropolymer compounds for data cable applications. According to the agreement, the companies will combine the Du Pont patented fluoropolymer technology with AlphaGary's compounding expertise to develop new products aimed at the North American plenum and limited combustible duct cable market, as well as the European Construction Products Directive (CPD) Class A & B cable, and emerging Chinese high-performance data cable markets. The companies also hope to participate in the advancement of codes and standards for cabling products in all regions.
The joint development agreement will focus on developing and commercialising new products for jacketing, insulation / buffers, and cross webs used in unshielded twisted pair (UTP), shielded twisted pair (STP) coaxial, fire alarm, and fibre optic cable applications. "The goal of this programme is to bring new value to cable manufacturers by providing additional options for producing a variety of cables with superior safety and transmission performance capability, commented Mr Robert N. Gingue, AlphaGary managing director. We believe this is a unique product development opportunity for two industry leaders to bring added safety and performance to the wire and cable market. Mr Patrick Lindner, global business manager - data communications for Du Pont Fluoroproducts, added: Fluoropolymers represent the best available technology for electrical performance and fire safety. We believe that, by combining those inherent material qualities with AlphaGarys compounding technologies, we can develop differentiated, next generation products that create technical advances for end users, perhaps in the form of increased fire safety or bandwidth capabilities.
