Spinning speciality yarns
Fil-Tec offers a complete line of performance yarns for applications in power cables, copper and fibre optic telecommunications and speciality cables. The product range covers water-blocking binder yarns, non-wicking and flame retardant/low smoke finishes; core yarns; ripcords; filler yarns; marker yarns; and fibreglass reinforcement yarns.
The company claims an industry ‘first’ with the colour availability of its water-swellable binder yarn. The M110 WS family (1000 denier) is available in absorption capacities of 5x, 10x, 25x, 45x, 55x and 65x and in a variety of colours. Coloured binder yarn can serve to identify cable constructions, size or application. The various swell factors available give design engineers the flexibility to choose the size yarn and swell factor that best suits the cable.
Explaining that its water-swellable binder and core yarns are very low dust, and hence extend the life of bearings and other moving parts of the manufacturing equipment. Fil-Tec continues: "This in turn means less downtime due to mechanical maintenance related to dust problems, less clean up time and a cleaner working environment for the operators."

It also offers excellent integrity and balance, can run at 5000rpm without unwanted vibration and produces more metres per package.
