Braids and more from Mettex
Mettex offers an extensive range of shielding braids and complementary wire products for the screening and protection of cables. These include high optical coverage braided sleeving – produced to a minimum of 90% or 95% – and manufactured continuously from electro tin-plated copper wire. Sizes from 2mm up to 75mm, suitable for a wide range of cables, are readily available from stock. For high temperature applications, up to 250˚C, an equivalent product is available produced from nickel-plated copper wire. Both tin and nickel-plated sleeving braids are recommended for applications where electromagnetic interference is encountered, such as highly sensitive data and communications cabling.
Mettex also manufactures rugged galvanised and stainless steel sleeving braids for the mechanical protection and armouring of products such as mining cable. For best results, optimum shielding and ease of application Mettex offers a comprehensive overbraiding service, whereby braid is applied directly to a customers’ free-issue cable or conduit, up to a diameter of 85mm. Optical coverage of a minimum 90% is offered as standard although this can be altered to satisfy individual applications. The entire range of sleeving braids can also be produced to customer specification using bespoke materials such as phosphor bronze, aluminium and other high performance copper alloys.
In addition to braided sleeving Mettex manufactures wire mesh tape and stocking braid. Both products are available in tin-plated, plain copper and a range of bespoke materials and are used extensively as cable shields and in medium and high voltage cable jointing applications.
