Nextrom fibre tube pay-off FTP 1250

As fibre optic cable networks are spreading closer and closer to the end users, new demands are arising for the cable con-structions. This can especially be seen when deploying FTTH networks in metropolitan areas. Installation is very difficult and expensive using traditional installation methods. Therefore cable installation by blowing the cables to ducts has become more widely used. This installation method requires flexible light weight cables, which can easily be blown to micro-ducts. These micro-cables are composed of very small sub-units. It is very challenging to produce cables from these thin-walled loose tubes with traditional equipment.

Typically tension level in each micro- cable production step has to be significantly lower and more stable compared to traditional cable production steps. It is especially important to control the tension of the compact loose tubes in the stranding process. For this application Nextrom offers fibre tube pay-offs with extremely precise tension control. This modernized FTP family includes pay-offs for maximum 800mm and maximum 1250mm reel flange diameters.

These pay-off units are equipped with lightweight dancers and a control system with diameter adaptive controller parameters. This control system uses line speed reference and actual motor rotating speed to calculate actual reel diameter. Controller parameters are then updated based on actual reel diameter. This kind of sophisticated control system reduces rapid dancer movements, which are associated with tension peaks. Similar sophisticated control solutions can be found also in other Nextrom pay-offs, like CMP fibre pay-off and CMH heavy fibre pay-off.
