Efficient fibre optic marking systems
Medek & Schörner GmbH, Austria, supplies a wide range of cable marking, fibre optic colouring and coding, as well as coating and ribbon processing equipment that ensures perfect marking quality and gentle handling of the fibres throughout the entire processes, providing maximum performance, flexibility and modular construction. All components of the equipment are of modular design, and can easily be configured to form complete systems.
Medek’s GFP-UV colouring system comprises a fibre pay-off, colouring and curing units, and a capstan plus take-up unit. The line, specifically designed to coat optical fibres with UV-curable inks at speeds up to 3,000m/min, comprises:
- New colouring station concept: ink system with no waste of ink and minimum solvent consumption;
- New pneumatic bobbin fixing system;
- Anti-whipping device;
- Fully electronic tension measuring system with “AutoZero”;
- Extended data logging;
- Perfectly focused Medek & Schörner designed UV-irradiator for maximum curing performance;
- Network connectivity for data exchange;
- Process adapted hardware periphery for superior process control;
- Machine Error diagnostic protocol tool for comfortable remote assistance;
- Multi language visualisation (German, English, French, Chinese, etc.).
The GFP-UV line has also been designed to permit a full and perfect integration of additional processes (such as ring marking, single and multi-layer tight-buffering, proof testing) without additional set-up time or any modifications. In addition, fibre tension sensors ensure optimal fibre travelling conditions with minimum mechanical stress and minimum fibre oscillations. An automated reel flange detecting system and a winding supervision system offer a smooth and flawless fibre take-up with minimum operator attendance.
Medek & Schörner also offers equipment for high-speed ribbon processing of up to 24 primary coated and coloured optical fibres at maximum operational speeds of up to 1,000m/min and with excellent ribbon planarity. The horizontal design offers a simple and comfortable equipment handling. The company’s portfolio also includes high-performance hot foil meter/footage markers, series FMS, that print length marks in meter or feet sequence along with text, company logo, and/or any other user definable codes in user selectable colours on the jacket of optical fibre cables. Advanced AC servo drive systems are provided for extremely accurate length marking at speeds up to and above 150m/min.
