Traversing systems for fibre optic and data cables
Gentle winding of the material between the coil flanges is particularly vital in the case of high-quality fibre optic and data cables. Joachim Uhing KG GmbH, Germany, offers a wide range of rolling ring traversing systems particularly suited to avoid damage and subsequent transmission faults. The company’s rolling ring traversing systems can be continuously adapted to the coil width and the respective material diameter and are directly driven by the winding shaft via a belt drive. This makes a separate drive motor and a controller synchronising coil and traversing speed unnecessary. The rolling ring traversing system purely mechanically converts the traversing shaft’s constant direction of rotation into a traversing motion at the stroke end. Using a scale, the feed per coil rotation can be easily adapted to the material diameter.
A release lever allows the traversing system to be uncoupled and moved to the start position on the shaft when winding is about to begin. Coil changing can be sped up with the “Easylock” fast-action clamping system of the same manufacturer that does not require any tools. Traversing system automatically adapts to spool width. Uhing has also developed a non-contacting flange scanning system, FA series, that automatically adapts the traversing width to the spool used. The FA even detects and compensates for different spool positions on the winding shaft without making a manual readjustment of the traversing system’s limit stops necessary.
