New non-standard compression spring software
Further continuing with upgrading its software packages, the Institute of Spring Technology (IST) Ltd, UK, offers a unique package in the latest series of spring CAD software, which enables the user to design compression springs with variability in wire diameter, outside diameter and pitch by user specified geometry input. The software has successfully been used by the Institute and has predicted the location of maximum stress at the position of failure in an automotive suspension spring with completely variable geometry.
Base module (validation programme) includes constant or variable geometry, accurate free-length and solid length calculation, as well as detailed geometry specification possible (up to 100 increments per coil). Users can also purchase the graphics module, which includes a drawing package, unprestress/prestress levels on load versus length graph and influence of user specified tolerances. The graphic module also provides load versus maximum stress, load or length versus rate, stress distribution at working load, goodman diagram for fatigue life prediction and the influence of user specified tolerances, as well as upper limit relaxation predications based on maximum stress.
Incorporated into this package, are all the latest features including International, European and National material specifications, multiple languages for display screens (English, French, German, Spanish, with other languages available on application) and networked version as standard, as well as greater integration into windows for transfer of screen data via the clipboard to produce reports. IST ’s Version 7 range of software programmes are available for Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and XP and are written and developed to be fully interactive for the spring designer. The Institute also offers a training package on the design of non-standard compression springs, which features this unique software package.
