Non-contact concentricity, diameter and ovality measuring system
Zumbach Electronic AG, Switzerland, has introduced ODEX® 8 a non-contact measuring system for LAN, telephone and coax cables. The new device has been designed for continuous, entirely non-contact measurement and monitoring of concentricity, outer diameter and ovality during the extrusion. The acquisition of the outer diameter in two axes is achieved with high-frequency laser scanning technology, while the measurement of the inner conductor position is performed inductively, utilising several measuring coils.
Very compact, the new ODEX® 8 fits easily between extruder and cooling trough. Modular, the device can be used as a fully static measuring head (sufficient when the conductor runs smoothly or is guided by rollers), or as an optional servo-system for applications with considerable variations of product position. The concentricity and diameter data can be utilised in several ways:
- With Zumbach’s USYS 2000, USYS 8000 CELLMASTER® or WALLMASTER processors
- Direct processors or PLC networking via serial interfaces or PROFIBUS DP.
