Mechanical descaling systems for in-line processing

Specialising in the manufacture of mechanical descaling systems, Wire Lab Company, USA, supplies its series of WILCO mechanical descaling systems for the continuous in-line descaling of green rods ranging from 5.5 to 12.7mm Ø. The series includes five standard models, from the most basic and economical model 920 air-jet descaler to the advanced model 1750 with automatic rod brushing and lubricant precoating. WILCO descalers are grouped into two main categories: basic or non-aggressive descalers, and aggressive descaling systems that incorporates the automatic rod brushing machine into the process.

Basic WILCO descalers (models 920, 1030 and 1060) are very well-suited for the production of industrial quality type wire products, where emphasis is placed on producing wire at the lowest possible cost per tonne. The two models of aggressive descalers will, by incorporating the automatic rod brushing machine, consistently produce a very clean wire rod, allowing making much higher quality finished wire products. The WILCO automatic rod brusher uses a series of eight wire brushes to aggressively clean the rod surface, removing residual scales and red rust particles that are detrimental to making high-quality wire. Unique to the WILCO brusher is advanced PLC-based controls, which continuously monitor wire brush condition and as needed, automatically adjust the machine on the fly. Operator adjustment of the machine is not required, assuring the most consistently cleaned wire rod. All WILCO machinery is production-proven to withstand the rigours of day-to-day use in the mill and is designed for the operator with straight forward controls and full machine dust enclosures to keep the plant clean.
