Sodium and calcium soaps
For many years, Peter Greven Fett-Chemie GmbH, Germany, has been providing lubricants for the wire drawing industry. The company's portfolio includes a wide range of sodium and calcium drawing soaps. To meet constantly increasing requirements, the company has recently developed new products and updated existing ones. A new product line, branded Liganit®, has been launched and specially created to meet requirements for drawing iron, steel and stainless steel wire, low and high-carbon wire, as well as mechanically de-scaled or pickled wire. The new line also includes:
- Liganit® T 300, a special immersion soap for the treatment of zinc-phosphatised cold-heading wire prior to skin-pass. The product excels by variable lubricant coatings, low-dust drawing and long bath lives;
- Liganit® S 350, a soap-free dry-film lubricant for drawing galvanised wire and featuring high-forming performance, low consumption and unproblematic wire coating with PVC.
The company' range of sodium soaps meets the requirements of modern wire production with respect to forming performance, tool-life quantities and profitability thanks to the use of high-quality fatty acids in combination with selected additives and special production methods. Thin layers of lubricants and high-water solubility of the remaining layers make it possible to produce wires with minimum surface roughness and maximum final cleanliness. Furthermore, Peter Greven offers a range of calcium soaps featuring the right type and quantity of used oleochemical raw materials, a selection of suitable additives, and saponification under high-temperature conditions as well as careful grinding. Good surface covering and virtual water-insolubility of these lubricants guarantee safe drawing of mechanically de-scaled wires, even with subsequent wet drawing. Moderate lubricant coatings and high melting points make it possible to form pickled steel and stainless steel qualities.
