FEATURE NEWS:
Bell annealer technology combines 100% hydrogen and high-convection
Specialising in the development and manufacture of heat treatment facilities for the steel, copper and aluminium semi-finished products industry, Ebner Industrieofenbau GmbH, Austria, is the well-known developer of the HICON/H2® bell annealer technology, which combines 100% hydrogen and high-convection. This successful and revolutionary system features the highest annealed quality with the shortest possible heating and cooling times, the lowest electrical and fossil fuel consumption, and the lowest process atmosphere consumption (does not require expensive analysis such as carbon potential control), guaranteeing the best price/performance ratio.
The surface cleanliness and uniform mechanical properties of the annealed material enable the optimisation and cost reduction of downstream processes. Computerised operation and automatic archiving of the process data take the strain off the operators, so that fewer operators are required, and comprehensive documentation is provided for quality assurance purposes. The company also has its own Research & Development lab where full scale anneals can be carried-out with production charges to prove the properties specified. Besides planning and design, fabrication, installation and commissioning, great emphasis is also placed on consultation and customer support. Modern production equipment ensures that quality is maintained.
The company as recently announced that it has been awarded a contract by SeAH Special Steel Co. Ltd, Korea, for the delivery of a new HICON/H2® bell annealer for the third expansion phase of the Korean company’s facility in Pohang. SeAH now has a total of 8 HICON/H2® work-bases, 5 heating bells and 4 cooling bells available. Each work-base can accept charges of up to 50 tonnes. Production emphasis is upon cold heading grades, but the heat treatment of ball bearing steels is also carried-out. The control of annealing processes and the archiving of annealing data for all three facilities is carried-out by a PC-based Central Operating System (COS). The third expansion phase is due to begin production in October 2004.
