Efficient systems for cleaner steel wires

Today’s modern steel wire heating process requires a high-degree of care, as a perfectly clean surface of the wire is paramount before the electroplating process and when steel-cord or house wires are processed. FIB (Le Four Industriel Belge), Belgium, provides the steel wire industry with gas and air premixing combustion systems that accurately control the atmosphere in continuous furnaces, thus avoiding decarburation and formation of large quantities of scales and oxides. In addition, pickling by chloridric acid is needed in most continuous processing lines for final surface treatment such as galvanising. The company’s Tornado pickling bath has been designed to make pickling more effective by efficient rubbing of the surface of the wires by pickling liquor. The movement of acid along the wires makes wires cleaner under faster conditions. The cleanliness of the factory and the safety of the workers are taken care of during the continuous process of steel wires by continuous water curtains closing the central acid tanks and preventing the spread of fumes in the factory.

Le Four Industriel Belge specialises in the design and manufacture of batch heat treatment installations and continuous lines for patenting lines, annealing, galvanising and oil tempered wires. This range of equipment is suitable for the process of steel wires used for tyre cords, springs, lift and crane cables, dry clean hangers, nails, piano wires, staples, etc. The company also supplies advanced annealing installations for heat treatment, such as furnaces with N2 or H2 protective atmosphere, that are suitable for fast running cold heading machines that need wires featuring increased degrees of cold heading deformation and special surfaces after annealing.
