Roller hearth furnace for brass rods

Otto Junker GmbH, Germany, has recently and successfully supplied a German customer with a roller hearth furnace designed for the annealing and cooling down of brass rods and sections in straight lengths. Hexagon brass sections of various dimensions are annealed inside the furnace and then cooled down almost to ambient temperature in the attached cooling chamber (stress relieve annealing). For product temperature monitoring, load drag-type thermocouples are attached to the face ends of selected sections in order to be able to record curves showing the march of temperature of the sections in the furnace and in the cooling chamber.

An evaluation of the acceptance test load shows that all the contractually specified data can be achieved, such as annealing temperatures inside the load within an agreed tolerance of ±5°C. During tests, the temperature of the sections at the exit of the cooling zone was considerably below the contractually specified value. The throughput rate was achieved. Some consumption figures for power and natural gas were also considerably below the contractually specified values. The temperature curves recorded also show that the brass sections undergo the exact metallurgical process required. It means that the requested material output quality is ensured by the new Otto Junker high-convection furnace with attached cooling chamber to the customer's full satisfaction.
