A remedy against concrete fatigue and corrosion

Société Nouvelle de Tréfilerie Normande (SNTN), France, specialises in the production of high-quality low-carbon steel wire with gauges ranging from 2.0 up to 16.0mm, exporting its products world-wide. Drawn steel wire is used in numerous and diverse industries such as shop-fitting equipment, automotive industry, electrical appliances, agriculture and building construction. With its bright mild steel, its Flashwire® and its galvanised steel wire, SNTN provides customers with quality standards of drawn wire in coils, cut length or welded mesh.

The company also offers PREZINC 500, a galvanised notched wire intended for the building industry (pre-stressed concrete and prefabricated products). It provides several advantages, such as lowered maintenance costs, elimination of unsightly damage, reduced concrete thicknesses (Ref. BAEL n° 91 Art. A 7.1), increased longevity for concrete structures, forming and bending without scaling, excellent weldability, fabrication of lightweight high-strength concrete structures. PREZINC 500 is the result of a unique process: continuous galvanisation. A wire is first of all shot-peened and heated by induction, and then passed through a bubble of molten zinc at a speed of 180m/min. This speed of travel alters the structure of the inter-metallic layers producing new properties in galvanised steels. PREZINC 500 features a covering of zinc that is resistant to shaping and welding operations. Used in the manufacture of reinforcing for reinforced concrete, it provides effective protection against corrosion, making it possible to avoid splitting, cracking and ruptures in concrete, and it can be used in exactly the same way as standard steels (bending, welding and shaping). A wide variety of applications is developing for this product, which can be used as cladding steels on the light elements of buildings such as balconies, finials and façade panels. The use of PREZINC 500 steel also makes it possible to go from "very serious splits " to "non serious splits", not only in seaside structures, but also in swimming pools, reservoirs, water treatment plants, etc.

SNTN also manufactures and markets smooth galvanised steels in diameters ranging from 4.5 to 12.0mm with zinc thicknesses of up to 50µm, and bright drawn wires in a range of diameters from 1.5 to 16.0mm.
