Bridon at the forefront of galvanised bridge wire technology

As a world-wide premier supplier and distributor of wire, wire rope and lifting systems, the Bridon Group has based its reputation on quality, service and technical innovation. Bridon Wire is the business within the Bridon Group responsible for the global sales and marketing of all wire products, which includes high-carbon steel wire, prestressing wire and strand, as well as stainless and alloy steel wire for some of the most demanding applications and environments known to man. Bridon Group products provide solutions to the most arduous and technically demanding challenges. They are extensively used in construction, mining, oil and gas extraction, aerial transportation, telecommunications, automotive components, ropes, cables, and other specialised areas of engineering - markets where there can be no compromise on product performance and integrity.

Bridon has a long established tradition of supplying bridge wire to many world record holding suspension and cable stayed bridges. Long term investment in product research and development ensures the group will continue to be at the forefront of galvanised bridge wire technology. Bridon’s wide portfolio of bridge wires includes: - Conventional (1,600N/mm2 minimum) grade 5mm Ø bridge wires, used for suspension bridge main cables, for aerial spinning, prefabricated parallel wire bundles, spiral strand bundles or locked coil strand bundles; - Ultra high-tensile (1,860N/mm2 minimum) grade 5mm Ø bridge wires, offering significant increase in strength to weight ratio; - 7mm Ø bridge wires, more commonly used for stay cables and incorporated into parallel wire strands.

For suspension bridges, Bridon offers 5mm nominal Ø class-A, final hot dipped galvanised wires that are used in the construction of main cables. Specific wire diameters vary from project to project, with typical wire diameters including 5.10mm, 5.28mm, 5.35mm and 5.38mm. Main cable wires are available in conventional grade (1,570N/mm2 minimum tensile) and UHT grade (1,860N/mm2 minimum tensile). These wires are used for cable construction methods, such as aerial spinning, where the wire is supplied in rapid pay-off coils for rewinding speeds in excess of 6m/s; prefabricated parallel wire bundles where the wire is supplied in accurate length measured coils with the high degree of straightness pre-requisite for cables. Other methods include locked coil bundles where round and shaped wires are supplied to strand manufacturers for bundles of prefabricated locked coil cable assemblies; as well as spiral strand bundles where round wires are supplied to strand manufacturers for bundles of prefabricated spiral strand cable assemblies.

Bridon also provides wires for cable-stayed bridges. This portfolio includes class-A galvanised bridge wires used in the following stay cable construction methods: - Parallel wire strands: 7mm Ø low relaxation wire supplied in coils, with the high degree of straightness pre-requisite for parallel wire strand manufacture; - Locked coil stay cables: round and shaped wires supplied to strand manufacturers for prefabricated locked coil cable assemblies; - Spiral strand stay cables: round wires supplied to strand manufacturers for prefabricated spiral strand cable assemblies

Uddevalla Bridge, Sweden, Bridon supplied 1,100 tonnes of strand in lengths of 70 to 215m, each cable having between 22 and 66 strands
