Straight line wire drawing machines and drawing equipment

Established in 1968, and successfully expanded in 1989, the Taiwanese company Gwo-Lian Machinery Industry Co Ltd designs and manufactures straight line drawing machines and other drawing equipment. The company provides a wide range of wire drawing machinery, including 5 models of spooler (0.7 - 12.0mm), 5 models of handstand type wire drawing machine (4 - 36mm), and 5 models of a combined descaling machine (5.5 - 15mm). In addition, Gwo-Lian offers 3 models of single-deck vertical drawing machine (0.8 - 5.5mm), and 4 models of descaling machines for reducing acid pollution (5.5 - 13mm Ø).

A highlight of the Gwo-Lian range is the straight-line wire, dry drawing machine. This is suitable for low and mild-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, PC wire, alloy steel, stainless steel and copper steel. The machine operates through a system of drawing drums, made of FCD-45 cast iron, that have a surface hardness able to obtain HRC 40 ±2°. After tungsten carbide treatment, the surface hardness of the drum can obtain HRC68 ±2°, while the drawing drums are adhesive with tungsten carbide. This machine is driven by a DC electric control system, incorporating a speed controlled DC motor driver and a server electric control system. To avoid slack wire, the wire is fixed on a freely mobile drum via a pressure-roller pneumatic cylinder. The die holder is adjustable and provides options of a pressure die for each of the drums (block) or a standard die. The dies have a full level water cooling system, while the pressure die is supplied with a two-layer water cooling system. The tuner roll control system offers a very flexible control system for wire diameters ranging from 0.40 to 16mm at all drawing speeds and there is a sensor roller for tension control that enables auto-adjustment for each block speed. They can sense 4,000 points on each 12mm distance and auto-adjust to the speed of each block if a die diameter is out of specification. This avoids uncontrolled pull back, while a pneumatic cylinder controls the tension and interior pressure balance is maintained.

A cooling system for the drums involves a double water inlet cooling system whereby the interior wall of the drawing drum is cooled by a turbulent water motion. High-drawing speeds can be achieved because adequate cooling is activated after each draft, with the added bonus that no deposits remain in the interior of the drums (i.e. rust or lime). In addition, there is air cooling, with air blowing power, for all drawing drums. The system is operated by a computerised controlling system, which contains useful features including die formula memory, automatic calculation of dimensions, warning system, and production records. It comes with a state-of-the-art modem, allowing remote connection for on-line trouble shooting by Gwo-Lian engineers.
