FEATURE NEWS:
Inductive pre-heaters for cable manufacturing
Providing a full line of extrusion equipment for the wire and cable industry, Fine International Corp., USA, has recently launched a full line of inductive pre-heaters for heating conductor, steel wire and braided core products. The IP series of pre-heaters utilise high-current coils to induce current flow into the wire resulting in resistance heating. The units are available in three frequency ranges including 4kHz, 350Hz and 50Hz with the higher frequencies required for uniform heating at higher extrusion speeds (1,000ft/min and higher). The unit power rating is matched to the application and is available at 5.5, 10, 16, 20kW units.
All units can be operated in a manual or automatic mode. In the automatic mode, the temperature of the heated wire is set and is maintained over the line speed conditions. The manual mode provides an operator to directly adjust current flow and disengages the logic circuit following line speed. Both modes protect overheating the wire from wire breaks through a minimum speed threshold protection circuit. Customised pre-heaters are also available for special applications.
