Modular is the key at Weber & Scher
Weber & Scher, now in its 90th year of operation, specialises in providing equip-ment and technology specifically to the
wire and cable industry worldwide. Recently, the company introduced a line of modular cable pay-off and take-up systems. These are based on a compact and economical design unit that can be utilised throughout the factory for a variety of applications. The pay-offs and take-ups are offered in different incremental sizes to accommodate a range of reel diameters
and widths.
The pay-off systems can be non-driven, supplied with a mechanical or electrical brake. However, driven pay-off and take-up models are also available that can be torque regulated or, alternatively, speed regulated from a dancer to maintain the preset cable tension.
The cable take-up systems can be furnished with a mechanical type cable traversing mechanism to provide a level wind on the cable reel. In addition, reel traversing type cable take-up systems are offered to obtain a level wind on the reel while also centring the cable on the wire. Both optical and processor-based traversing systems can be furnished to suit any application.
In addition, Weber & Scher manufactures a variety of cable accumulation systems for use in tandem with the pay-off and take-up units, to permit the continuous operation of production lines. Both vertical and horizontal accumulation systems are available in heavy-duty and light-duty models.
The accumulation systems can be supplied with dancer trim speed control of the pay-off or take-up units, for precise tension regulation.
Weber & Scher is also a complete turnkey manufacturer of jelly filling systems, as well as smooth and corrugated metal tape sheathing systems for optical fibre cables, telephone cables and so on. Seam welded metal tape sheathing systems
are additionally available for producing CATV cables, RF coaxial cables and power cables.
Ancillary equipment within the Weber & Scher product line includes belt wrap capstans, linear belt capstans, taping heads, binding heads, Kevlar servers and core wrap tape application systems.
