New line of dual take-ups

USA-based Royle Systems Group offers a product line that includes shaft-type and shaftless automatic dual take-ups designed for production speeds of up to 1000m/minute. The shaft-type family covers the three sizes of 630mm, 800mm and 1000mm, whereas the shaftless family of dual take-ups includes 1000mm and 1250mm models.

The units are designed for the manufacture of insulated and jacketed products with a maximum outside diameter of 18mm and a total maximum conductor area of about 6 AWG. The take-ups are intended for use with control wires, automotive wires, coaxial cables and building wires. They have been designed with a high level of operating reliability and with the aim of reduced set-up times and ease of maintenance.

All of the units feature:

fully automatic crossover at all speeds;
precise traversing for layer and trapezoidal winding;
AC vector drives for the reel motors;
AC servo drives for the traversing system;
a push-out mechanism with a loading ramp or platform; and
external dancers for easier start-ups.

A colour touchscreen display provides the operator with an easy window onto the process, and all control logic is performed within an Allen-Bradley PLC.

The units are self-contained and include safety circuits, plus crossovers can be initiated automatically at predetermined lengths or manually by the operator.

Royle Systems Group has also recently introduced a new series of floor traversing roll-through pay-offs and take-ups for a wide range of reel sizes and applications. These units feature a capacity of from 1500mm (3 tonnes) to 3000mm (15 tonnes), but all of them are ruggedly designed with features that are attractive to operators and maintenance personnel alike.

The standard features include:

variable frequency motors, which eliminate the need for changing gear transmissions;
a complete electrical control system that is integrated into the machine frame so that no separate electrical enclosures are required;
automatic or manual reel changing procedures, which enable the easy handling of reels;
a remote handheld controller for loading and unloading, which elimi-nates the need for pendant arms;
a PLC controller with an MMI (man-machine interface) that is ergonomically located on the machines; and
all of the components are available off-the-shelf.

The traversing, indexing or stationary pay-offs can be optionally driven or brake operated, while the take-ups can also feature an optional advanced controlled traversing system.
