Braiding applications and innovations

Lloyd & Bouvier has more than 30 years’ experience of rebuilding services for Wardwell’s 12-, 16- and 24-carrier rotary style braiders for wire and cable manu-facturing, textile braiding and the medical industry.

“From large conductor cables requiring armour shielding with tape applied to catheter size applications for the medical industry, our innovative engineering approach to a customer’s specific requirements assures that quality products will be produced on our completely rebuilt braiders,” says Mike McKee.The company has designed special carriers for fine wire applications of braid down to 44 AWG wire.

Other fine wire enhancements, such as special take-up and pay-off tensioning, traverse modification for better winding of small diameter products and gearbox modifications for pick coverages up to 120ppi, allow for the successful braiding of catheter size products.

Lloyd & Bouvier says it has also been successful in incorporating planetary units under a braider, as well as taping units both under and above the braider head for various types of special taping and cabling applications, helping to eliminate secondary operations that take extra time and product handling, thus increasing productivity.
