FEATURE NEWS:
Pressure dies for process optimization in wire drawing
Now in its third generation as a family-run business, Paul Schaaf & Co – known as SCOB – shows no signs of resting on its laurels. The company’s philosophy of invention continues apace, ready to meet the demands of the ever-changing marketplace.
SCOB recommends pressure dies as a vital part of process optimization in wire drawing. A pressure die is made of two components – a wire drawing die without an entry angle and a pressure die having a pressure nib insert, that leads the lubricant in the reducing.
The lubrication in the pressure die feeds through the entry zone, into the inner diameter of the pressure nib, coating the wire and funnels into the actual draw zone, thereby maintaining a reservoir of lubricant to ensure continuity and the efficacy of the lubricating film.
The advantages resulting out of a pressure die system are as follows: maximising die performance; minimising redundant work during drawing; increased drawing speeds;
a reduction in machine downtime; and consistency in wire output.
