FEATURE NEWS:
New generation of insulator coating
Dow Corning has introduced Sylgard HVIC+, a new generation of high-voltage insulator coating (HVIC) that offers protection against power distribution interruptions due to arcing and flashover from salt spray, industrial pollutants, and even desert sand. Sylgard HVIC+ improves on the original RTV coating to provide the best combination of wet electrical performance, tracking resistance, and durability. Improvements in the wet product also make application easier and faster, reducing labour cost and downtime.
This long-term water repellency is invaluable to high-voltage applications because, without it, contaminants on the surface of the insulators become wet and produce a conductive layer, which contributes to an increase in leakage currents, dryband arcing, and ultimately flashover.
Sylgard HVIC+ also exhibits high-tracking resistance to reduce damage during salt storms or other severe contamination events. It requires only one application, eliminating the need for repeated water washing or greasing, which results in significant savings in maintenance and replacement costs.
