New ‘protective’ pulling in dogs

In the wire drawing shops pulling in dogs were for a long time considered to be a necessary evil. After a few months of use they left evidence on the drawing blocks and after a few years these had to be re-machined.

Nowadays there are new coatings on drawing blocks, and pulling in dogs have gained a new significance. These new coatings on the drawing blocks must not become damaged as Martin Purgina of Wiretool explains: “Apart from the high cost of repair, the down time on the machine is totally unacceptable. Machine manufacturers have for a long time have recognised that they need to improve their technology. These circumstances led us to develop a system to look after and protect the drawing blocks when pulling in the wire.”

Wiretool’s new generation of pulling in dogs with QFD (Quality Function Deployment) are called Flex. The Flex series has outer covers which house the gripping jaws and these can be made from brass, copper, aluminium or plastic. The special feature about these is that the housings are interchangeable. Also the support plate and chain are both protected by plastic. A wide choice of accessories are also available to further protect the drawing blocks.
