Advanced capabilities from Whitelegg Machines

Whitelegg Machines pioneered the development of fully automatic CNC wire forming and welding machines over 20 years ago. Today the company remains a market leader with innovative equipment that is in use around the world.

Its CFM automatic, twin axis, wire former and butt welder is unique in producing fully formed and welded shapes from coil without any special tooling. Changing from one product to another takes just a few seconds, using pre-stored parameters in the computer’s memory.

The latest CFM unit is designed to produce an infinite variety of welded and unwelded components direct from the coil, such as welded rectangular frames from 50 x 50mm up to 2 x 2m in mild steel wire from 2 to 10mm diameter. Also new to the CFM, is a servo-controlled secondary bend head which, by fitting one of a variety of bending plates, can form very tight bends around pins or blocks, to suit customers’ requirements. The latest range incorporates many performance-enhancing features and Whitelegg says: “These include superior quality drive motors that provide 20% more power than previously attainable and an improved cam design for quieter operation and longer life. The new feed wheel shaft design eliminates backlash, and the pneumatic system and unit framework have been updated.

All electronics are housed in a sealed cabinet inside the machine to prevent contamination by dust and oil. New software has been incorporated with an array of features to allow faster programming and set-up.”

Versions of the CFM are available for strip and profiled material up to 25mm wide, together with drilling, punching and press units to increase versatility. To complement the CFM range Whitelegg offers the dedicated CFR ring former and welder.

Incorporating all the advanced attributes of the CFM, the three machines in this range cover wire diameters of 2-8mm, with finished ring diameters between 50 and 1000mm.

High accuracy, non deformation butt welding is a unique aspect of the whole range. The latest technology allows for very strong welds with almost no upset. Even stainless steel can be resistance welded with very impressive results meaning less secondary operations such as de-burring are required.
