Aluminium conductor stranding from Stolberger
Stolberger KMB has a machine that
is capable of stranding all kinds of aluminium conductors, including ACS, ACSR, ACSS and AAAC. It is also able to manufacture OPGW-conductors with fibre optic tube(s) in the centre core, using 6 or 12 wires. It can strand 37 wires in one pass or 61 wires in two passes, and is equipped with three cold grease applicators for overhead conductors.
The machine has a newly designed loading system that travels along a rail track
to the stranders. The unloading/loading time of the bobbins of each strander is approximately 20 minutes. Furthermore, each strander is equipped with a pre-forming head resulting in higher production capacity.
The individual line components are all driven by AC motors which give the machine a much higher level of flexibility and also act as a generator in case of a power cut. This assures a synchronised stopping of the line without damaging the conductors.
