| Established in 1962 as a modern mass production unit for the manufacture of paper insulated power cable in technical collaboration with BICC, UK, the Indian company Universal Cables Ltd entered into technical collaboration with ABB, Sweden, in 1977 for the manufacture of cross-linked polyethylene medium, high and extra high-voltage power cable, through dry cure and dry cooled process. In 1983, the company established Vindhya Telelinks Ltd in technical collaboration with Ericsson Cable AB, Sweden, for the manufacture of copper telephone cables and in 1993, Birla Eriksson Optical Ltd for the manufacture of fibre optic cables. In 1985 Universal Cables Ltd brought in complete technical know-how from ABB for the manufacture of high-tech fluoroplastic cables that are specially suitable for high-temperature and high-frequency application.
Belonging to the India group M.P Birla and ISO-9001-2000 registered, Universal Cables Ltd manufactures a wide variety of cables for diverse application such as power, control, instrumentation, co-axial and telecommunication cables, etc. under one roof. The company has also recently been certified according to IS/ISO 14001 for environmental management system.
