The goal of the machine design was to combine several requirements of the international wire and cable industry, like production productivity, product quality and the support of different type of binding materials respectively cable constructions into one machine concept. The result of the development is the high productivity cross binding system GSZ290 V/R (Picture 1).

The symmetrical cross binder supports cops sizes up to 290 x 250 mm (15 kg) with a productivity of up to 18.000 lays per minute. All commercial binding tapes including water blocking binding yarns are supported.

Implemented in the final design are a number of special features such as the use of special materials for the flyers and bearings, special designed yarn guiding systems, self balancing binder assembly�s, etc., which ensures the binder can run at high binding speeds for long periods with minimal maintenance. Both, the flyer and the binder cob of the cross binder are driven. This allows the adjust of the binding yarn tension in the range of 5 to 30 N by calculating the tension as a relation to the motor load of the binder drive. The machine design allows a fast start-up and ramp-down of the production process too. In case of emergency situations like factory power fail, the production equipment is optionally able to stop the production process, without damaging the cable.

The customer utility is a high productivity binding system, supporting a various type of fibre optical, telephone and power cable constructions, by achieving an excellent product quality (Picture 2) .
