Fibre Optic Marking Technology
Taymer Industries new development for fibre optic cable marking technology is a combination of hot foil printing and camera inspection technology.

The Print View 1400 uses high-speed, digital imaging to capture real time images of cable markings. The digital images are enhanced, magnified and displayed on a remote monitor, enabling the operator to oversee the print quality while supervising other processes. When combined with Taymers Hot Foil printers, the Print View 1400 can optically recognise the message as well as verify the sequential mark. The message is compared to a message inputted by the operator and the sequential mark is compared to a value from the Taymer Hot Foil printer. Variances result in an alarm sounding to notify the operator.

The Print View 1400 is a versatile product and while the OCR component is specific to optical cable and Taymer hot foil printing, the Print View can be used to can enhance and magnify all types of cable markings from high speed ink contact to ink jet. Markings on either smooth or convoluted cable jackets can both be effectively monitored. Print quality at line speeds up to 400 meters per minute can be reliably checked by Print View 1400s unique technology.

Over the past several years, Taymer has developed a number of new Hot Foil printers based on customer suggestions. The most advanced models from the company are its HF 4000 Hot Foil Printer, which is designed for continuous printing applications without interrupting production, and its HF 3000 Hot Foil Printer, which is designed to print on the top and the bottom of the cable at the same time. The HF 4000 can seamlessly change from one application to the next without any downtime or lost cable. The system features two print drums and two numbering heads installed in the machine, which make it possible to transfer printing from one print drum to the next at the flick of a switch. This unit eliminates interruption and delays in production while producing a good quality product.

Simultaneously printing on the top and bottom of a cable is a relatively new concept, and Taymer has had an increased demand from the industry for this method. The HF 3000 was developed based on a specific customer's requirement to be able to identify cable after installation, when the printing on one side was not visible. Taymer met this demand so that 20 years from now, customers will still be able to identify the type, phase or voltage of cables, even if they are underground or twisted.

The Toronto-based company has been developing cable marking solutions for over 35 years and its products include: hot foil, ink jet, contact, indent and embossing printers. Taymer is represented in the UK by JG Tech and in Germany, Switzerland and Austria by BA Messtechnik.
