| SAGEM, France, offers a new range of high-performance fibre optic cables, SHEATH, that suit all types of telecommunication networks: long-haul backbones as well as city rings and local access. They accommodate all standard and advanced NZD fibres and can be adapted to various rights-of-way, installation methods, and environmental conditions (ducted, direct-buried, aerial, sewers, fire hazard areas, etc.). They combine light-weight with high-capacity, essential characteristics for reducing installation costs.
SHEATH fibre optic cables are composed of watertight modules with 4, 6, 8 or 12 optical fibres identified by colour coding. The modules are then inserted in a structure reinforced by mechanical components. This structure gives the cable the required qualities equivalent to standard fibre optic cables. The range of SHEATH fibre optic cables varies from 4 to 1,440 optical fibres, and meets requirements for installations in ducts, and for buried, overhead and indoors cables. SHEATH modules and cables are IEC standardised. The innovative characteristics of the cable reduce costs associated with installations:
- Compact and light weight, lower weight and diameter;
- Compatible with all installation techniques by blowing, pulling or mechanised placement;
- High performances for low global cost.
