| The Wire Machinery Division of Continuus-Properzi, Italy, which includes Redaelli, OTT, and JA Kraft, offers its MegaLogos line of drawing machines that are suitable for high-carbon wire rod. Fully complying with EC-norms and featuring three different diameters of capstans (760, 900 and 1,270mm), this line is designed to meet the latest trend of bigger wire diameters at faster speed. The horizontally mounted capstans make the machine a revolution in ergonomics, which is particularly important during the threading-up process. The capstans can be disassembled for maintenance by acting on a single expansion ring. The new geometry of the machine drastically improves the maintenance of any of its components, including die holder/soap-box and over-sized sensor arms with integrated wire breakage control. The backside of the machine features access doors to the motors, belts and gear-boxes. Integrating a closed circuit lubricant cooling system and perfectly fitting with the enormous torque to be transmitted from DC or AC (optional) motors, the gear-boxes are positioned behind each capstan, and the horizontal positioning of the motors allow a shorter timing belt path, making easier the maintenance with minimal down-time.
In specific applications, a double deck final block with straightener is available, which is fully water-cooled for constant wire quality. Furthermore, each capstan features a sophisticated internal high-speed water cooling system in addition to external air blow located at the apron ring. The cooling system design is unique as the internal surface of each capstan is protected against corrosion, mineral build-up and clogging problems. The final result is more efficient and faster surface cooling for the wire as well as improved machinery performance. The large diameter backward pulley prevents twisting of the wire. The positioning of any ancillary equipment, such as wire diameter probe, wire surface defects detector, rotating dies and pressure dies, etc. is easier. The combination of a horizontal OTT spooler out of the wide range from its catalogue (up to B 1600 DIN) allows to take-up the finished product without any wire twist (this feature is of fundamental importance for high-quality spring wire). A special line of self-traversing spoolers is also available.
The MegaLogos line also features an up-dated automation architecture, based on PLC-control and Profibus communication, that provides advanced operation management to obtain the best performances. A large LCD colour screen keeps the operator informed by showing the real drawing conditions, including the dies wear and overall machinery status (both optional). A PC-based operator screen (also an option) can present and record all data. An Ethernet line for the connection to a Factory Supervisor Computer is also available as an option for the control of the production flow. Furthermore, a modem to Internet link to Continuus-Properzi Service Centre permits immediate diagnosis of failures as well as direct intervention from the service call-centre. |
