Ring welding machines
Specialising in the design and manufacture of wire forming and welding machines, Whitelegg Machines Ltd, UK, provides the industry with its CFR range of ring forming and butt welding machines that offers the highest precision production of large welded rings. Three models cover the range 2.0 to 8.0mm and the ring diameter, infinitely variable, is set by a digital indicator covering the range of 50 to 1,000mm. The wire is taken from a coil, usually at least 1,000kg weight and fed to the forming position by two pairs of feed wheels that have air pressure tension control. The wire length is set to the nearest 0.1mm via microprocessor, a very accurate length being given by a 5,000 line precision encoder.

The unique design of the wire forming assembly, incorporating four bending rollers, ensures the best possible control of the wire. When the ring is formed, it is gripped by the pivoted welding unit and moved to the welding position, where it is butt welded and ejected. As soon as the first ring is cut, the next ring is being formed, ensuring continuous production of 10 to 20 rings per minute, depending on diameter.
