| Benz Materials Testing Instruments, USA, specialises in the design and manufacture of universal testers that are precise, durable and less expensive than other universal testers. Benz universal testers test elongation, tension, weld strength, shearing strength and the pull-out strength of the bond between wire and connectors. The Benzwin software is comprehensive, capable of most product tests and easy to use. Of particular interest is the Benz TT2100 series, usually suitable for 30-12 gauge wire, cable or rod, and the Benz TT2200 series, with more crosshead travel, for higher elongation materials, typically above 1,000% elongation in this size range. Both series go to 10,000 lb force, applicable for most insulated wire applications.
Some heavy-duty wire, cable and rod, such as power cables, require more than 10,000 lb force, as do lighter duty steel and stainless steel. These require a Benz TT2300, with 20,000 lbs. force. Benz universal testers serve a variety of needs. One Benz customer, for example, uses the TT2205, a 5,000 lb capacity machine with 48 of crosshead travel, to test 8mm diameter copper rod with a breaking force of 4,200 lb, and to test smaller diameter (30 gauge) wire and 30-gauge insulation. With a TT2300, he could double rod diameter to 16mm and still run the 30 gauge, saving the cost of two machines.
Benz testing machines operate to international electrical requirements and testing standards, and are in use in the UK. New data acquisition chips, in use less than two years, are smaller and faster than more commonly used chips.
