| Easydur Italiana di Renato AFFRI, Italy, specialises in the design and manufacture of tensile and compression spring testing machines, torque meters, tensile testers, as well as hardness testers for wire and other materials. An example is the company's model TAB Step 2, a personal computer system designed for application on-board coiling machines. Based on the idea of installing a camera on board a spring coiler, TAB Step 2 is capable of measuring and correcting both spring free-length and spring diameter, by absolute measurement, coil by coil, under all working conditions, including at very high-output rates.
TAB Step 2 permits the operator to set tolerances for each individual coil, allowing him to reject any non-conforming spring and to correct the following pieces. The system also provides several length and diameter correction algorithms, such as plain average or error control by means of mathematical integration functions that are capable of predicting next piece error through probabilistic calculation. The new Easydur system also permits to measure the spring pitch for each coil. In addition, each spring is checked in several points before being cut. This way, corrections can be made during the forming process, thus preventing any unnecessary production of defective pieces.
The operating system works under Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, so, TAB Step 2 can be connected to a computer network or to the Internet, so the state of the manufacturing process can be monitored from other PCs at the office or from home. In addition, all readings can be filed and exported.
