| Friedrich Petig GmbH, Germany, has recently launched a new series of upset testing machines designed for controlling the quality of cold heading wire in accordance with DIN 1654. The machines feature two presses with separate hydraulic cylinders that are mounted on a base. The test pieces are produced on the shearing side of the press. The tools for shearing off the upsetting samples can be supplied in a choice of ratios: 1:1.3 or 1:1.5. On the upsetting side of the press, the upsetting height can be set using the electronic upsetting height pre-selection facility. The automatic work cycle process means that operation of the machine is very simple. A work light and a protective grille is automatically lowered, providing a problem-free and safe working environment.
The new series comprises six different sizes of machine, that are currently available for up to 6,000kN upsetting force. The larger machines are fitted with a standard 2-stage hydraulic system. Depending on where the machines are installed, all the sizes can be equipped with an oil-water cooler. The largest upset testing machine can test wires with a diameter of up to 55mm.
